Ameristar Fence Installation: The Thousand Oaks Owner’s Guide
A full Ameristar fence installation in Thousand Oaks typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 installed, depending on panel height, linear footage, gate count, and whether we’re pulling old posts or setting new ones. We stock standard Ameristar-compatible panels, posts, gates, and hardware locally, and in most cases we can have a crew on-site within a few days of your call to (805) 309-3386. Most Thousand Oaks homeowners call us because a gate is sagging and dragging, a post has rusted through at the base, or a panel took a hit and the rails are now bowed. The fix is usually faster than people expect once we know the panel height and whether the original posts are still solid.
Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar makes several fence lines, and the parts are not interchangeable across all of them. The three series we see most often in Thousand Oaks backyards are the Echelon line (heavier-gauge steel, deeper channels, typically 6-foot or 8-foot panels), the Classic line (standard residential gauge, the most common for HOA-governed neighborhoods), and the Contractor series (lighter gauge, used to keep cost down on long perimeter runs). Each series uses its own post dimensions, bracket spacing, and rail punch pattern.
Here’s the gotcha that trips up a lot of homeowners: a 6-foot Echelon panel will not drop into a Classic post even though both are six feet tall. The channel widths differ by about 3/16″, and the bracket hole spacing shifts with the post gauge. If you’re replacing a single damaged panel, match the embossed series name on the post cap or look for the label on the inside rail channel. If the label is gone, measure the post outer dimension: Echelon posts run 2-1/2″ square, Classic runs 2″, and Contractor runs 1-7/8″. That measurement alone tells us exactly which parts to pull from the truck, and it means we show up with the right hardware the first time rather than making you wait while a special-order panel comes in.
We are an independent installer, not affiliated with Ameristar. That matters because it gives us the freedom to use OEM panels where they make sense and quality aftermarket equivalents where the price difference doesn’t buy you anything. For Echelon, we generally say stick with OEM. The gauge difference between a genuine Echelon panel and a “compatible” aftermarket panel is real. For Classic and Contractor, a lot of the aftermarket hardware from the majors is virtually identical to OEM and saves real money.

Signs Your Ameristar Fence Installation Is Failing
- The gate lags or scrapes the ground at the latch end. This nearly always means the hinge post is leaning, which usually traces back to shallow concrete footing or freezing soil movement in the colder Thousand Oaks microclimates. Swapping the hardware doesn’t fix it; the post needs to be reset or replaced.
- Rust bleeding from the base of the posts. Water pools at the post-to-concrete seam and wicks into the post interior. Over a few wet winters, the steel rusts from the inside out, and the post will eventually break off clean at the base. We see it most on older Classic series fences that were set with no weep holes drilled into the concrete.
- A panel that flexes when you press on it. Steel panels should be rigid. If the center of a panel pushes in and springs back, the rails have started to fatigue at the bracket connection points. The welded rail joints of Ameristar panels eventually work-harden, develop hairline cracks, and the only lasting fix is panel replacement.
- Popped or missing bracket screws. The self-tapping screws Ameristar uses can strip if the panel was installed with the wrong torque or if the fence gets hit repeatedly by wind-blown debris. Once two or three screws are gone from a bracket, the remaining points over-stress and fail in sequence.
- Rust streaks on the concrete below the fence. This means the factory baked-on coating has failed somewhere above, allowing water to reach the steel core. The stain arrives months before the visible panel rust does, so we’d rather address it early. Once the coating is compromised, you’re buying time with touch-up paint, not permanently fixing the panel.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

An Ameristar fence installation in Thousand Oaks falls into the $3,500 to $9,000 range for the jobs we write most often, with the majority landing in the $4,500 to $6,500 window. The two biggest drivers are linear footage and whether we’re replacing posts or working with the ones already set. Removing and resetting posts adds concrete work and disposal that a panel-only swap doesn’t. Gate work is another factor: a single walk gate runs $400 to $800 installed, and a double drive gate runs $800 to $1,500 depending on hardware and automation if you want it.
Every quote we write is a line item. You’ll see panel count, post count, hardware, concrete, demo, disposal, and the labor hours to set and hang everything. There is no “miscellaneous” line and no verbal estimate that grows on the final bill. Isaac Pruett has been clear about this from the start: the number we hand you is the number you pay, and we cover the work for 365 days from the completion date under our Done Right Promise. If something fails within that year, we return and fix it at no cost.
We also stock Ameristar-compatible parts for other brands we carry, including KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, which matters because a lot of Thousand Oaks homes combine their fence work with broader exterior updates.
DIY or Call Us?
There are things on an Ameristar fence an owner can safely do, and then there are things that go sideways fast. You can check for loose bracket screws, tighten the ones that are still biting, clear vegetation from the post bases, and watch for new rust. You should not attempt to pull and reset a leaning post or replace a full panel on your own, especially on any fence run with a slope. The tension in the panel changes as you unbolt the brackets, the panel can drop hard, and the jagged steel edges on cut panels will open you up in a second if you lose your grip. We have watched homeowners go after a “simple” panel swap and end up with a bent panel, a cracked post, and a morning lost.
If the post is leaning, the gate is hanging, or the panel is warped, call us at (805) 309-3386. We’ll tell you what’s actually wrong, what it costs, and when we can get it done.
FAQs

How long does an Ameristar fence last in Thousand Oaks?
A properly installed Ameristar Echelon fence with correctly set concrete footings should last 20 to 25 years in the Thousand Oaks climate before the coating begins to break down in any meaningful way. The Classic line runs closer to 15 to 20 years. The real variable is exposure: fences on ridgelines and canyon edges take more heat and more wind-driven dust than fences tucked into shaded interior lots, and those exposed fences are the ones that show early post-base rust. Call (805) 309-3386 for an honest assessment of the fence you have now.
Can a damaged Ameristar fence be repaired instead of replaced?
Yes, in some cases. A single bent panel can be swapped without touching the posts. A gate can sometimes be squared up with new hinges and a tension rod. Rusted post bases cannot be repaired; they get replaced. We’ll tell you which is which when we look at it, and the quote will reflect repair only where repair actually makes sense. Estimates are always free.
How long does an Ameristar fence installation take?
A typical single-home fence perimeter of 150 to 200 linear feet with gate work takes our crew one or two full days in Thousand Oaks. This includes demo and disposal if we’re pulling old posts. The concrete needs to cure before the final tensioning on gates, but the fence is set, level, and secure the day we finish. Call (805) 309-3386 and we’ll give you a straight answer on timing once we know your footage.
Do you stock Ameristar parts or do I need to wait for a special order?
We stock common Classic and Echelon panels, posts, brackets, gate hardware, and touch-up coating locally. If you have a Contractor series fence or an odd panel height, some pieces may need a special order, which usually lands in three to five business days. We have never had a Thousand Oaks customer wait more than a week for a part.
